Pets allowed include dogs and cats, small caged animals, birds, tropical and/or gold fish.
Approval Required
Fort Lewis Communities must approve your dogs and cats at the time you move in to the home, or before you acquire a new pet.
Fort Lewis requires that all pet owners register their animals within five (5) days after arrival. Within 2 weeks of your move in date or acquiring of your pet you must supply the Housing Office with a tag number, which will verify the proper rabies inoculation. Tag numbers can be obtained at the Ft. Lewis stray facility with proof of current vaccinations. If any vaccinations are required, you may make an appointment at the McChord AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility. For more information, please call (253) 982-3951.
Dogs(s) may be fenced in backyards providing the fence is approved by Fort Lewis Communities and is of a size and build to restrain the animal(s). See fence guidelines for more information. See below for approved designs and materials. The animal must also be chained if the animal is able to scale the fence. No animal may be kept in the backyard unless the yard has appropriate fencing.Pet Registration Form
